Jacobabad, January 29, 2012; a free medical camp for screening of Thalassaemia in Jacobabad city was held with the cooperation of Pakistan Medical Association (PIMA). The camp started by a team of the Foundation that includes
Dr. Saif Afirdi, Hematologist, Mr. Akbar, Laboratory Technologist, Mr. Lab technician, Mr. Ikhlaq Ud Din the Administrator. DCO Jacobabad, Dr. Rasheed memon,
the president PMA and other senior doctors were present at the inaugural moment. The team screened dozens of families by performing initial confirmation test for Thalassaemia.
Preiorly, Dr. Saif ur Rehman Afridi, The manager patient management department OSF, addressed a gathering of Thalassaemia suspected families and other people of the city and elaborated the disease, its management and prevention. He described the current prevalence of disease and carrier status in our society. He said that unawareness is the major reason of its spread and awareness is the vital solution to halt the inflow. He stressed upon the family screening, premarital test and prenatal test. Latter a meeting of PMA was held in which leading doctors, local administration, native NGOs and Omair Sana Foundation Team participated. They ponder upon the health care conditions and facilities in the city and role of the administration and civil society for the prevention of communicable and non- communicable diseases.
