Thalassaemia Azadi Cricket Tournament

Pakistan Independence Day is celebrated on August 14 nationally. To observe this national event Omair Sana Foundation annually arranges different activities to create awareness of this growing disorder with especial reference to the situation in our country. This year the foundation is going to organize a Thalassaemia Azadi Cricket Tournament (Part of more than a  decade long campaign of sensitization of Thalassaemia & blood donation awareness) too.

Thalassaemia is a genetic disorder which runs in families and transmits from generation to generation. Blood synthesis Stops/reduces in this condition and patient needs blood transfusion and iron chelation regularly for rest of his life. Thalassaemia is a disease, which not only affects the patient but also leaves a devastating psycho-social and financial impact upon the family of the patient. Therefore Support Group Therapy is required to help the families of patients pull through this traumatic experience. The overall prevalence of the disease is more than One hundred thousand Thalasssaemics in our society while 6000 increase annually in this pool but the alarming situation is the pool of Thalassaemia carriers which are more than ten million in our society and increasing with the passage of time. These carriers are the potential inducer of Thalassaemia if they got married to another carrier. These are very silent producers without any significant morphological and physiological detection. The basic reason of this growth is unawareness about this disease in the masses so the remedy lies in creating awareness for this ailment.

The goal of This Thalassaemia Azadi Cricket tournament was to highlight the intensity and gravity of the growing threats of Thalassaemia through creating awareness in the masses all over the country in general and corridors of administration in especial for the creation of a healthy society. Rehabilitate children of all Thalassaemia centers of Karachi and  provide a platform for recreation and healthy activities in order to make them a responsible citizen of the society

Objectives of the event were to organize cricket tournament for creation of awareness of Thalassaemia, work for awareness of Voluntary Blood Donation Awareness, involve Thalassaemia Children in healthy activities in order to give then an environment conducive for their physical and mental growth, eradicate sense of deprivation in Thalasssaemics, Sensitize society through Print & Electronic media for Thalassaemia Disorder and provide entertaining experience to our sponsors with management of events and give abundant opportunities to play, participate, promote and contribute for the cause.
